TOURNAMENT HOMEPAGE

SALEM, Mass. - The No. 5-seeded Salem State field hockey team (5-11, 3-9 MASCAC) takes on No. 4-seeded Worcester State University (7-11, 7-5 MASCAC) in the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) First Round on Tuesday, November 4 at 7:00 p.m. in Worcester.

Five Things to Know

  • Salem enters the tournament as the fifth seed and has now reached the postseason three straight years.
  • The Vikings will be aiming to earn its first MASCAC Tournament Championship since the conference started hosting a championship tournament in 2023.
  • Salem has finished with five or more wins in three of the last five seasons.
  • Earlier this year, Worcester swept the regular season series over Salem and is currently riding a 15-game win streak over the Blue and Orange.
  • The Vikings will look to earn their first postseason win since 2023 when the squad topped Fitchburg State, 4-3 in the MASCAC quarterfinals (Nov. 1, 2023).

Who to Watch For

  • Salem will look to leading goal scorer Mikayla Talbot (Scarborough, Maine) to play a key role for the Vikings' offense throughout the MASCAC Playoffs. This year for Salem, the sophomore forward finished with a career-high 12 goals, which included her first career hat-trick in a 3-1 win at Gordon (Oct. 7). In games where she has scored multiple goals, the Vikings are 3-1. Last time against Worcester on Oct. 25, Talbot notched a score despite the 4-2 loss.
  • The Vikings' offense will also feature two other multi-goal scorers in Zoey Radford (Biddeford, Maine) and Grace Morey (Danvers, Mass.), with five and four goals, respectively. Radford posted two multi-goal games this year for the Vikes, and in those games, Salem topped their opponents. Three of Morey's four goals came in a hat trick when the squad topped Anna Maria, 6-3 (Sept. 16).
  • Izzy Mosley (Middleborough, Mass.) held firm between the pipes all season for Salem. The junior goalie started in all 16 games and finished with 183 saves on the year. Earlier this season, Mosley garnered Defensive Player of the Week honors on Oct. 14. In the week prior, she helped the Vikings go 2-0 and posted a .917 save percentage that week. In her two games against Worcester, Mosley allowed 10 goals and made 34 stops (17.0 SPG). In each of those two contests, she posted a save percentage above .750.
  • Worcester's offense is led by leading goal scorer Kaylie Ciccone, who ended the regular season with 13 goals. She recorded four multi-goal games this year for Worcester, highlighted by a four-goal performance in a 7-5 win versus Framingham State (Sept. 27). In her two contests against Salem, she scored two goals and dished out three assists.
  • In net, the Lancers will look to Lizzy MacDonald, who started in all 18 games. The sophomore goalie finished with 114 saves while posting a .691 save percentage. When she went against the Vikings this year, MacDonald totaled 10 saves.
