SALEM, Mass. – Salem State field hockey welcomed the Bears from Bridgewater State University to Alumni Field tonight for a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) matchup. Salem's fourth quarter comeback fell short as the Bears went on to take the 2-1 victory. The win boosted the Bears' record to 5-7 overall and 2-4 in conference play while the loss dropped the Vikings to 2-10 on the season and 0-6 in MASCAC action.
How it Happened:
- The Bears scored the game's opening goal at the nine-minute mark and looked to extend their lead but Izzy Mosley (Middleborough, Mass.) made four saves to keep her team's deficit at just one to end the first frame.
- After Abby Zuber (Westport, Mass.) doubled the Bears' lead six minutes into the second quarter the Vikings looked to get on the board, but Mosley's counterpart denied their two chances and sent the game into the break with the Bears holding the 2-0 advantage.
- The Vikings maintained possession for most of the third quarter, but a trio of saves by Brianna Gagnon (Tewksbury, Mass.) kept the score at 2-0 to head into the final 15 minutes of play.
- With just over five minutes left in the game, Grace Morey (Danvers, Mass.) found Mikayla Talbot (Scarborough, Maine) for the Vikings' first goal to cut the Bears' lead in half.
- In the final minutes of action, the Vikings' offense intensified in an attempt to equalize the score, but Gagnon made three crucial saves to secure the 2-1 victory for the Bears at Alumni Field tonight.
Inside the Numbers:
- Mikayla Talbot's goal in tonight's effort marked her fifth of the season, which is a team-best.
- Izzy Mosley made 13 saves in net for the Vikings.
