SALEM, Mass. – Salem State field hockey notched their second win in a row tonight after Mikayla Talbot's (Danvers, Mass.) two goal performance led her team to the 3-0 victory over the Gordon College Fighting Scots.
HOW IT HAPPENED:
- With under a minute to play in the opening stanza, Grace Morey (Danvers, Mass.) capitalized on a broken to play to notch the games' first goal and put the Vikings ahead, 1-0.
- Salem tried to double their lead in the final minutes of the second, but Allyson Stauffer (Lancaster, Pa.) saved three shots to keep her teams' deficit at one to enter the break.
- The Vikings would extend their lead in the third quarter after Morey and Allison Thomas (Carver, Mass.) found Talbot for a pair of goals to give the Vikings a 3-0 advantage to head into the final 15 minutes of action.
- The Vikings' defense remained solid in the final quarter, denying all seven of Gordon's penalty corners to secure the 3-0 shutout over the Fighting Scots.
