NORTH ADAMS, Mass. -- Salem State swept both ends of a MASCAC doubleheader against MCLA at Joe Wolfe Field on Friday, winning 6-2 and 6-0. The Vikings improved to 16-16 and 11-9 in conference with the wins. The Trailblazers go to 5-29 and 2-18.
Game 1
Cam Fisher won his second straight start, leading Salem State to a 6-2 victory in game one after a complete game effort. Fisher allowed two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts. Ryan Bourgeois was 2-for-3 with two runs and an RBI.
Aidan Brett took the loss for MCLA, going 4.2 innings, giving up four runs -- two earned -- on three hits with three strikeouts and five walks. Benjamin Jacob and William Walsh each collected a pair of hits.
How It Happened:
- Bourgeois lifted a home run to left field, giving Salem State a 1-0 lead in the second.
- A three-run fourth gave the Vikings a 4-0 lead following a bases loaded walk and a two-run single by Derek Angell.
- The Trailblazers added two runs in the bottom of the inning on a sacrifice fly by Chris Vargas and base hit by Walsh.
- Connor Dolan's RBI single and a run scoring double by Yabdriel Gonzalez in the seventh made the score 6-2.
Game 2
Alex Metznik threw five scoreless innings to pick up a game two win. Metznik scattered five hits and allowed a walk before Brandon McMahon and Jake Simpson each pitched an inning to combine for the shutout. Gonzalez finished 3-for-4 with a run while Nolan Currier was 2-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and an RBI.
Nate Morse went 5.1 innings with six runs on 11 hits and two walks in the loss. Aidan Brett added two hits for MCLA.
How It Happened:
- Owen Duggan's two-run single was part of a five-run first for the Vikings. Devin Fuegen added an RBI groundout while Currier added an RBI double and Lucas Rincon an RBI single.
- Angell added an RBI single to center in the sixth.
- MCLA threatened in the fourth after a double by Brett and base hit from Roshan Warriar put runners on second and third with one out. However, Metznik worked out of the one out jam with a foul out and strikeout, stranding both base runners.
The Vikings will host MCLA at 3:00 pm tomorrow, May 2.
