Salem State Sweeps Framingham State

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. -- Lucas Rincon went 3-for-4 with a triple, two runs and six RBI to lead Salem State to a 19-16 win over Framingham State in game one of their scheduled MASCAC doubleheader on Monday at Bowditch Field. Ethan Stepputtis went 3-for-3 with a triple, three runs and three RBI in game two as the Vikings completed the sweep with a 15-2 win over the Rams. Salem State is now 12-14 and 8-7 in conference. Framingham State is 7-23 and 5-10.   

How It Happened:

Game 1

Riley Fenerty went 4.2 innings to go to 2-0 on the season after allowing six earned runs on 11 hits with three strikeouts. Boucher earned the save in 0.1 innings with a hit allowed and a strikeout. Connor Dolan and Michael Buccaro each collected three hits and combined for four RBI And three runs.

Alexander Montero took the loss, lasting 2.0 innings, allowing six runs on four hits with three walks and two strikeouts. Lucas Basile was 5-for-5 with four runs and two RBI.

  • Trailing 2-1 in the third, Salem State scored seven runs in the third to surge ahead.
  • Ethan Stepputtis, Buccaro and Yabdriel Gonzalez all had RBI singles, before Rincon cleared the bases with a three-run triple.
  • Salem State added eight more runs in the fourth as four consecutive singles scored six runs. An error and another run scoring single by Stepputtis, and a bases loaded walk to Gonzalez made the score 16-3. 
  • Framingham State added fours run in the fifth and sixth innings and made things interesting in the seventh, scoring five runs on three hits, including a pinch-hit RBI single by Peter Rubini and a two-run double by Basile.

 Game 2

Nolan Currier (1-2) earned the win in game two, throwing a complete game, allowing two runs on five hits with four walks and a season-high 10 strikeouts. Dolan was 3-for-4 with three runs and an RBI.

Matthew DeCarney (0-1) took the loss, throwing 3.0 innings and giving up six runs on eight hits. Massimo Mondi was 3-for-3 with a run.

  • A Stepputtis triple and Gonzalez made it 3-1 in favor of the Vikings in the third.
  • Six runs in the fourth made it 9-1 as a Dolan single, Owen Duggan sacrifice fly, two-run single from Stepputtis and two-run error accounted for the runs.
  • Five more runs in the fifth extended the lead to 14-1 after a Ryan Bourgeois two-run single.

 Salem State hosts Suffolk at 3:30 pm on Wednesday, April 23.
