Brock star: Pare shining
Lowell native pitching in Cape Cod Baseball League
At last, Brock Pare doesn't feel his goal is so far-fetched.
When he graduated from Lowell High in 2019 without a college offer, his Major League Baseball dream seemed light years away. He knew that.
And even when he walked on to Div. 3 Salem State, the 6-foot-5 pitcher struggled to find his footing, sporting a 6.65 ERA and 2-4 record in his third season with the club. Holding onto his goal felt even more misguided.
But it was that willingness to clutch his dream when it couldn't have seemed further away that has him as close as he's been. In the span of months, Pare lowered his ERA to 2.55 during his graduate year at Salem State, earning a Div. 1 commitment to Central Connecticut State in the transfer portal.
Now's he earned a roster spot in the Cape Cod Baseball League.
When he took the mound for the Cotuit Kettleers in his debut last week in a league that's advanced over 1,600 players to the big leagues, that MLB dream began to feel more attainable.
"Down here, that's normal conversation," said Pare. "All these kids down here can say they are looking to get drafted and not a single person would look at them like they were crazy."
