Four Vikings Named to 2021 All-MASCAC Baseball Team

SALEM, Mass. – Four Salem State players were selected to the 2021 All-Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Baseball Team, as voted on by the league's eight head coaches on Wednesday. Designated hitter Zach Piroh (Bridgeport, Conn.), pitcher Jack Sefrino (Dartmouth, Mass.) and second baseman Jake Boucher (Cheshire, Conn.) earned first team honors while third baseman Christian Burt (Lynn, Mass.) was named to the all-conference second team. 

Piroh topped the conference with a .456 batting average and .719 slugging percentage, leading the Vikings to the MASCAC post-season championship. His .537 on base percentage was second in the league. He recorded a base hit in 17-of-19 games this season, including 11-straight. The senior topped the team in hits with 26 (5th overall) and finished in the top five in the league with six doubles and three home runs. Sefrino enjoyed a stellar sophomore campaign, posting the second most wins in the MASCAC with a 4-1 record and a conference best 1.80 ERA among starting pitchers. He had a shutout and two complete games and won four straight to end the season.

Boucher, carries an 11-game hitting streak into Regionals, and had 10 multi-hit games this season, for an impressive .397 batting average – fifth best in the conference. He finished in the top-10 in the conference in hits (25), RBI (14) and runs (17). One of the top defensive players in the MASCAC, he turned a league-leading 15 double plays while posting a .974 fielding percentage. 

Burt compiled a .370 batting average (7th overall) and a .433 on base percentage (10th overall). He racked up 20 hits with nine runs scored and eight RBI. He batted .444 with a triple and three runs scored in the championship series against Fitchburg State.
